After I graduated from University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2020 with a BA in psychology, I wanted to help people with social media addiction. Before jumping into graduate school to become a therapist, I wanted to make sure I’d actually like the job.

So I did two things:

1. I got a job as a receptionist at a therapy office to see what a day in the life of a therapist was like.

2. I offered free Zoom sessions to my Instagram followers to see what it was like to help people (even if I wasn’t good at it yet).

I discovered that I loved helping people, and I wanted to get better at it. But I was disappointed by what I saw behind closed doors at the therapy office.

Many therapists were overworked and underpaid, but that wasn’t even the worst part. At staff meetings, I heard therapists talk shit about their own clients behind their backs.

I couldn’t see myself working in a system that treated both therapists and clients poorly, so I needed to find another path to help people.

While I was helping people with social media addiction, I noticed that a lot of my clients had ADHD. After researching on the r/ADHD subreddit, I discovered ADHD coaching. Many people with ADHD found coaching more helpful than therapy, so I got certified as a coach.

I kept helping my Instagram followers for free in exchange for reviews, and I used my receptionist income to invest in my coaching skills.

Once I had enough experience and reviews, I started charging for sessions. Eventually, I left the therapy office to run my own coaching business where I helped people with social media addiction.

In November 2024, I got hired to work as a customer service representative for Linkin Park’s official fan club, Linkin Park Underground.

I never thought I’d love something more than running my own business until I started working in the music industry for the first time.

I’m currently looking for entry-level positions in marketing or management in the music industry.
